2011 Nebbiolo

The 2011 Nebbiolo is a remarkable wine from a difficult vintage. The grapes were never touched by a pump. They went from destemmer to macrobin to a 1 ton fermenter where they were tread by foot for several days and then gently punched down until dry. This allowed for the gentlest of extraction of wonderfully soft tannins. I also aged the wine an extra year in puncheon and the effect is outstanding. The wine showcases all the classic characteristics of an aged nebbiolo. Its intoxicating aromatics open up with cinnamon, nutmeg, dried flowers and leather. The wine is broad in the palette with juicy flavors of black cherries, licorice, nutmeg and clove with an earthy, leathery background that finishes with pleasing acidity and silky tannins. This wine will complement a great variety of foods and age wonderfully for many years to come.
